Fr. John’s Conference Message for 2013
For each of the past 37 years, prominent pioneering scientists, scholars, and spiritual leaders from East and West have met in Montreal to share their exciting insights and discoveries, including an emerging vision of what it means to be truly human. Armed with the knowledge that science and religion are not mutually exclusive exercises, they have presented evidence that, without a fuller development of the psyche or soul and its latent potential, human beings are incomplete. The potential to become spiritually informed through the direct experiences of psyche/soul, while observed in the saints and sages of all traditions, has yet to be fully developed in the rest of us. The psychic and moral capacities, exhibited in the “gifts” of forgiveness and healing that are sometimes bestowed upon the human soul and spirit, are so termed because they seem to awaken within us from outside our present composition, as if from a higher source. The perennial human instinct or awareness that death is not the end of life, but rather the beginning of another phase of life in a new, higher dimension, is present in every civilization and era in human history. The ever-increasing interest in the science-spirit connection (the theme of this year’s conference) suggests that we are in the evolutionary process of re-integration and re-enchantment.
